Hamilton hoping for spectacular result

The German driver dominated practice on Friday and was once again in top form as he controlled Saturday’s qualifying session from start to finish, eventually finishing half a second ahead of team mate Mark Webber.

It is the sixth time this season Red Bull have shut out the front of the grid and the 11th time in 12 races the team have had a driver in pole position.

Red Bull’s nearest challengers, Ferrari, were some way off the pace, with Vettel (1/2 to win the Hungarian GP) qualifying over a second faster than third placed Fernando Alonso (6/1).

Sunday’s race threatens to be a foregone conclusion barring any mechanical errors for the Red Bulls.

Current championship leader Hamilton has all but given up on catching Vettel and Webber, instead setting his sights on a finish that would keep him top of the standings heading into the summer break.

“It was really my target to finish fifth,” said Hamilton. “I know that the Red Bulls are impossible to beat, their pace is incredible.

“I pulled every inch out of the car. We’ve got to work hard but it’s a good position for us to start and we’re on the clean side. Finishing third or fourth would be spectacular.”
