Button urges McLaren respect

Jenson Button (20/1 Spanish GP Outright) believes he and his team-mate Sergio Perez have to respect McLaren‘s decision to allow the pair to race against each other in the 2013 campaign.

The duo fought hard against each other during their last outing at the Bahrain Grand Prix, with both drivers nearly seeing their MP4-28s run off the track.

Many teams try to keep their drivers apart, with team orders (some of which are obeyed) being seen from both Red Bull and Mercedes in a bid to obtain maximum points for the constructors’ championship.

However, ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix later this month, Button feels he and Perez (50/1 Spanish GP Outright) must not take advantage of the freedom McLaren have given them to race hard against anyone on the circuit, even each other.

He said: “I think we’re very lucky we were allowed to race. There are a lot of teams where team-mates aren’t allowed to race.

“But we’d better respect that decision and not take advantage of it, and that’s something we all understand now.

“Hopefully we can be racing in Barcelona, fighting cleanly and hopefully for the win, not for sixth or seventh.”
