Alonso still confident of title chances

Fernando Alonso (Alonso 4/1 World Championship outright) insists he can still win the Drivers’ Championship this year, despite falling further behind Sebastian Vettel after Sunday’s Indian Grand Prix.

The Spaniard led the standings for the majority of the season, but has been overtaken by Vettel (1/6 World Championship outright) in recent weeks, thanks to the German’s superb run of form since the summer break.

The world champion once again took chequered flag at the Buddh International Circuit, to claim his fourth consecutive win and extend his lead to 13 points.

However, there were plenty of positives for Alonso to take from Sunday’s race, as he used all of his experience and nous to rise from fifth on the grid to claim second place on the podium.

The result has understandably given the 31-year-old plenty of confidence and the double world champion remains adamant that he can still win the championship as we head into the year’s final three races.

“There are 75 points and we are 13 behind and we know we need to improve,” he said. “For that, we need to make a step forward as at the moment we are not able to win.

“I think Brazil will be quite good and hopefully I am going to be happy. I believe, of course, that we can win the title again.”
