Jenson on the Button in Spain

Jenson Button has boosted McLaren ahead of Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix (Button 4/1 – Race Winner) by leading the way in second practice on Friday afternoon.

The British driver endured a disappointing time last time out at the Bahrain Grand Prix when he was forced to retire through mechanical failure, while team-mate Lewis Hamilton had to settle for eighth place following pit stop issues.

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel (7/4 – World Drivers Championship 2012) won the race to go top of the drivers’ standings, while his victory was also good enough to move Red Bull ahead of McLaren in the contstructors’ table after four races.

But in their bid to get back to the top of both standings (McLaren – 8/11 Constructors Championship), Button provided a welcome boost by finishing with a lap of one minute 23.399secs around Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya.

Vettel was a close second, 0.164secs adrift in his Red Bull, followed by Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg and then Hamilton, who was half a second off the pace of his fellow Briton and team-mate Button.
