Alonso calls for more from Ferrari

Fernando Alonso (16/1 to win Spanish GP) says Ferrari have plenty more work to do to improve their F2012 car as they bid for an upturn in fortunes in this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

The team have made some changes to their car following the Mugello testing and the upgraded F2012 will be unveiled at the Circuit de Catalunya this weekend.

The hope is Ferrari will now be more competitive after what has overall been a disappointing start to the 2012 campaign – Alonso’s victory in the Malaysian GP is the only time the team have made it on to the podium so far this year.

Speaking at Thursday’s drivers’ press conference, Alonso (16/1 – 2012 World Driver’s Championship outright) said he is not sure how the car will perform and insisted there is plenty of room for more improvements and enhancements in the future.

“We don’t know what car we have here,” he said. “We have new parts but, here, everybody has new parts. Because it’s Ferrari there is a lot of expectation and it seems like only Ferrari are bringing new parts.

“We have a step forward, we believe, on what we had in Bahrain, but we also know that this isn’t the last step we need to do. It’s continuous work that we need to do, starting here in Barcelona.”

He added: “In Monaco, we must bring new parts, in Canada we must bring new parts, but we won’t bring a new car in every race as seems we brought here in Barcelona.”
