Allison expects Raikkonen return

Ferrari technical director James Allison has insisted that Kimi Raikkonen (100/1 World Drivers’ Championship outright) will start to improve on the track as the Finn goes in search of a first podium finish at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday.

The former Lotus driver has found life difficult since returning for a second stint with the racing outfit this season, with a seventh place finish in Australia the best result achieved so far.

Raikkonen has been out-performed by team-mate Fernando Alonso this season, with the Spaniard currently sitting in third place in the Drivers’ Championship behind the dominant Mercedes duo of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton (1/3 World Drivers’ Championship outright) who are first and second respectively.

The Finn’s poor start to the season was highlighted even more in the recent Grand Prix in China after finishing over a minute behind the winner of the race.

Raikkonen has admitted that his driving style is contributing to the dismal performances this season, but Allison is confident that the 34-year-old will return to form soon.

“Kimi is working extremely well with the team, collaborating with the engineers, helping us to drive this car forwards,” he said.

“He has class written all over him and in a very short space of time, I’m sure we will also see the results of that on the track.”

The formula one season gets back underway after a three-week break on May 11 at the Circuit de Catalunya, in what is the first European Grand Prix of the season.

Mercedes (1/50 Constructors’ Championship outright) driver Hamilton is looking to claim a record four consecutive race victory and move to the top of the standings above team-mate Rosberg who is just four points ahead.
