Hamilton hungrier than rival Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton (8/13 favourite Drivers’ Championship outright) believes his added desire to win will give him a huge advantage over Nico Rosberg in the race for the World Drivers’ Championship.

The Mercedes pair currently lead the standings with Hamilton edging ahead by three points courtesy of his fourth race win in a row last time out in Spain.

Up until then, the German had managed to hold off his colleague with a string of second place finishes after winning on the opening weekend in Australia and they are now all set to resume their rivalry over the next few days in Monaco.

The iconic street circuit is seen as the best chance the other teams will have to get close to the Championship leaders but Rosberg (2/1 Drivers’ Championship outright) is the defending champion and has an almost unique advantage over the other drivers, having grown up in the Principality while his father Keke was himself competing in F1.

In contrast his team-mate Hamilton came from much simpler roots and the 2008 world champion believe his more humble beginnings mean when push comes to shove he has more hunger to succeed than his colleague.

“Let me tell you this: I come from a not-great place in Stevenage and lived on a couch in my dad’s apartment,” he said. “Nico grew up in Monaco with jets and hotels and boats and all these kind of things – so the hunger is different.”

“I want to be the hungriest guy in the cockpit from all 22 of us. Even if every driver has to believe that he’s the hungriest – because if I were to come here believing that Nico is hungrier than me then I might as well go home.”
