Hamilton expecting more from Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton (1/3 favourite Drivers’ Championship outright) says he expects he and his Mercedes team will only continue to improve after cruising home to victory in Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix.

The Brit began the day on pole and after pulling away early on in Shanghai, never really looked in any real trouble as he sauntered home ahead of team-mate Nico Rosberg, while Fernando Alonso completed the podium in his Ferrari.

Arguably the main drama in the race involved the Red Bulls, as Sebastian Vettel initially ignored team orders to let Daniel Ricciardo past him, only to eventually relent with the Australian leading them over the line in fourth and fifth respectively.

Once again it was Hamilton’s day though as he made it three straight wins for the first time in his career following his previous triumphs in Malaysia and Bahrain but despite his dominance, he remains second in the standings behind Rosberg (11/4 Drivers’ Championship outright).

Coming into the season, Mercedes were being tipped to impress as they had the privilege of designing their own 1.6L V6 engine but no-one expected them to be this far ahead at this stage of the season, having won all four races in 2014.

Heading into the next race in Spain on May 11, it already appears set to be a straight shootout for the title between Hamilton and his German colleague and the 2008 world champion has now warned the other teams that he only expects the Brackley outfit to keep getting better.

“All the hard work from the team has paid off and I just can’t believe how amazing the car is and it’s testament how hard everyone’s been working,” he said after the race. “I am really happy Nico is up here with us too it’s great rewards for the team.

“This team is on a roll they have done a great job, we aim to keep moving forward and improving and I hope it can continue.”
