Mawatheeq will not compete in next Saturday’s King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
The five-year-old has had a poor season thus far, albeit one which has been beset by problems. Injury forced him out of the Dubai World Cup whilst he was withdrawn at the start of the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown as he failed to enter the stalls.
When he has run, in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, he was well beaten. This has been his only appearance of 2010.
Speaking about the decision to withdraw him from the King George, trainer Marcus Tregoning cited that Mawatheeq is not ready for the showpiece event.
“We were going to work him somewhere this weekend but we decided against it and that means he will miss the King George,” said Tregoning.
“We’ve just decided to give him a bit more time as we don’t feel he’s going to be ready for Ascot.
“We haven’t decided where we’re going with him yet but we just feel he wants a bit more time after the injury problem he had in the spring.”
Workforce is the current 4/5 favourite for the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, with Harbinger 5/2 second-favourite.
