Low confident of progress

Germany coach Joachim Low has hinted that Brazilian born striker Cacau will replace Miroslav Klose in his side’s crunch Group D match against Ghana. (Germany 1/2 to win the match)

The Germans face the Black Stars in Johannesburg on Wednesday and need a win to ensure qualification to the next round.

Their plight is furthered by the loss of the talismanic Klose, who was sent off against the Serbs for two bookable offences, and Low has hinted that the Brazillian could be given the nod over Mario Gomez and Stefan Kiessling.

“Right now I have a tendency that Cacau can play from the beginning but Gomez and Stefan Kiessling have also shown commitment and could be there from the start,” said Low, hinting that  may consider starting with two out and out strikers for the first time in the tournament.

“I could change positions. The last training is very important. After a defeat you consider all the possibilities. Right now, I have a tendency toward Cacau.”

After opening their campaign with an impressive 4-0 victory against Australia, the Germans lost to Serbia in their second group match leaving them needing the victory to ensure their qualification for the last 16.

However the coach remains confident that his side will qualify for the knockout phases and says his players are ready for the challenge the Ghanaians will present. (Germany 4/7 to qualify)

“When I talk to the players I do not get the impression they are nervous or worried after the defeat against Serbia. Although it is very young, the team has this confidence and inner conviction that it can beat Ghana,” he said.

“I think we’ve digested and worked on the defeat to Serbia in the last two or three days, we’re focused, we’ve prepared for the game against Ghana, a match which will not be easy.

“Ghana are a good team who have played well but we are convinced we can win this game and can get into the next round.”
