Joshua tipped for gold glory

Former Olympians David Price and Audley Harrison believe Team GB will be collecting another gold medal through the work of Anthony Joshua, who is the Evens favourite to win the Olympic Boxing Men’s Super Heavyweight division.

The boxing team have done well so far for the hosts with five guaranteed to pick up a medal and captain of four years ago, Price, is delighted with the way that the current crop have ‘raised the bar again’.

Eight years ago in Athens, Amir Khan was the solitary British representative but, after eight qualified for Beijing, Team GB’s crop of 2012 now have five going for gold and Price believes Joshua will deliver.

“I think Joshua’s got his name on the medal – he’s destined to win that medal the way things have gone with him,” Price added.

“He’s a great talent. To be an Olympian in its own right is a fantastic achievement, so to get a medal and potentially win the gold after such a short period of being a boxer, he is, without doubt, a massive talent.”

Joshua will take on Kazakhstan’s Ivan Dychko in the semi-finals (Dychko 7/4, Joshua 2/5 Match Betting) and will have Sydney gold medal winner Harrison in his corner, backing him to go the distance.

“He has a great chance of winning the gold. He’s got to go out there and earn it – they’re not going to give it to him – but he has a great chance. The world’s at his feet,” Harrison said.

“I’m going down there for the semis and the finals and I’m really looking forward to seeing our boxers perform.”
