Campbell out to add to gold rush

Luke Campbell (Evens Bantamweight Gold Medal Winner) will be hoping to build on Nicola Adams‘ Olympic glory when he takes on Ireland’s John Joe Nevin in the final of the men’s bantamweight division on Saturday.

Leeds’ Adams became the first woman boxer to claim an Olympic gold and now Campbell will be looking to take inspiration from that feat for his showdown with Nevin (4/5 Bantamweight Gold Medal Winner) at 20:45 tonight.

The Hull boxer has looked strong in the previous rounds and will be targeting another win over his Irish opponent, after he managed to claim a victory on countback in the semi-final of the World Championships last year.

He said: “It’s all about the gold medal for me now and it’s always the case that I get better in each fight in a tournament.

“But I’m proud of what I’ve done so far and I’m happy to make my family proud and my little lad and my home town of Hull.”

Team GB will be hoping Campbell can start off a flurry of golds in the ring for the men, with Anthony Joshua and Fred Evans also involved this weekend.

Both British fighters are in action on Sunday with Evans taking on Serik Sapiyev of Kazakhstan in the welterweight final, before Joshua faces the Italian Roberto Cammarelle in the final of the super heavyweight competition.
