Kuyt in Reds rallying cry

Dirk KuytDirk Kuyt says Liverpool (now 33/1 to win the Premier League in Betfred’s outright market) must put their recent poor form behind them and concentrate on building on their 2-0 Merseyside derby win over Everton on Sunday.

A late strike from Kuyt – his first goal for the Reds since September 19 – sealed the victory at Goodison Park to leave Rafa Benitez’s men in fifth place in the table.

The Spanish coach is confident his side will finish in the top four this season and Kuyt has echoed his manager’s sentiments, calling on the Reds to now embark on a run that will lift them up the table further.

“We beat Debrecen with a clean sheet and we did the same here, so hopefully we bring some of our confidence back,” the Dutchman said.

“It’s a good result and hopefully we can take the confidence from this into our next couple of games. It’s been a while since I scored, but for me that’s not the most important thing.”

He added: “When things don’t go your way it’s disappointing. It has been a very hard period for us but, like the manager says, we have to move on now and look forward. This was a good win, especially as it gets us back in the top five.”

Next up for Liverpool is a trip to Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League on Saturday where they will hope to make it three wins on the trot.
