New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is adopting a new attitude for his team’s play-off push ahead of Sunday’s must-win match in Washington against the struggling Redskins (11/10 Outright Match – Overtime Counts).
Sanchez threw a career-high four touchdown passes in the Jets’ 28-24 win over Buffalo at Metlife Stadium, but acknowledged he didn’t think he played a good game as boos rained down on him from disgruntled home fans during the player introductions.
The third-year quarterback has thrown 11 interceptions and fumbled five times this season as the Jets, who have reached the AFC Championship game in the past two seasons, have struggled to a 6-5 mark (8/11 Jets to win).
The 25-year-old, who has often looked relaxed on the sidelines despite his struggles, now says he is ready to ditch the playful demeanour if it helps the Jets turn the tables in the last five matches and clinch a play-off spot.
“All we know is (we are) playing more than 16 games,” Sanchez told the New York Daily News.
“So I don’t want to be the reason for that not to happen. That’s why my demeanor’s changed a little bit. If I’m giving off any vibe, it’s that we need to play well, more focused and there’s no time to mess around. We’ll have fun winning games.”
Washington are trying to win their second straight game after a run of six consecutive losses but running back LaDainian Tomlinson could be back for the Jets (9/5 TD in First Scoring Play), who are still struggling to muster any kind of consistent pass rush.
