Australia Test opener Phil Hughes has spoken of his determination to recover from a dislocated shoulder in time for the opening Ashes Test in Brisbane on November 25 (8/15 Australia – Test Series Betting).
The 21-year-old will be sidelined until early September because of the problem suffered in training and will not be considered for next month’s two-Test series against Pakistan in England.
Hughes revealed he sustained the injury while boxing training but hopes to be back in the nets by the end of the month.
The New South Wales batsman says he does not want to get ahead of himself, but hopes to be in a position to challenge for a place against England this winter (3/1 England – Test Series Betting).
“I’d love to be there,” he said. “I think every kid in Australia would love to be.
“I’ve had a taste of that in England but for me it’s huge just to be around the guys. I went to New Zealand and had a one-off Test there and it’s just great to be around the guys.
“If it happens it happens…it’s still a fair few months down the track but it would be great.”
