Sir Michael Stoute’s Epsom Derby hero Workforce (5/6f in King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes ante post betting) will bid to prove himself a true star of the turf when taking on older horses for the first time in his career on Saturday.

The King’s Best colt is seen by many as the horse to beat in the Group 1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot.

Workforce could not have been more impressive when bolting up in the Derby by seven lengths from At First Sight, and has reportedly thrived since.

The three-year-old, the mount of champion jockey Ryan Moore, will have to be on the top of his game to complete a famous big race double.

Workforce’s York conqueror and subsequent Irish Derby hero Cape Blanco will be in opposition, along with Royal Ascot winner Harbinger and top notch older horses Dar Re Mi, Daryakana and the enigmatic Youmzain.

As well as Harbinger (10/1 to win the Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe) and Workforce, Stoute – who claimed a one-two-three in last year’s race – also has Confront in the eight-horse field.
