Doncaster reported much-needed rain on the track on Monday evening, which will be much to the liking of (Arctic Cosmos 7/1 to win 2010 St Leger) in Saturday’s big race.
The Newmarket handler has Arctic Cosmos in the Classic, with the three-year-old seeking some cut in the ground for this weekend’s big race.
The colt claimed victory in the Digibet.com Handicap at Kempton back in early June and finished strongly to claim third in July’s Gordon Stakes at Goodwood.
Speaking about his charge’s chances of a Classic win, Gosden, whose Beachfire is 14/1 for the Cambridgeshire, said: “He is a giant of a horse who is in good form and will appreciate the rain.
“He’s not a horse I’ve rushed at all and the end of this year and next season are going to be very important to him.”
Doncaster’s clerk of the course David Williams confirmed the South Yorkshire track had an inch of rain overnight and is happy to have seen the showers.
Williams said: ”It’s good to soft ground and it may ease a little bit, especially on the round course, once it soaks in. I’m unsure about Saturday, but we could see some light rain. The forecast is changing all the time.”
