Parish Hall out of the Derby

Parish Hall has been ruled out of both the Irish 2,000 Guineas as well as the Investec Derby next week, for which Camelot is a strong 4/5 favourite.

Jim Bolger’s charge had been set to make his return at the Curragh on Saturday and was the 7-2 favourite with Betfred, but has been ruled out with a hind leg infection.

And with the Derby just a week away, the trainer – whose wife Jackie owns the horse – had no alternative but to pull him out of the Epsom showpiece as well.

“It’s not a very pleasant experience getting so close to the race,” Bolger said.

“He’s picked up a leg infection but at this stage I’ve no idea how long it will keep him off for.

“I’d imagine I will have a better idea by Wednesday or Thursday.

“This rules out Epsom as well.”

Power is now the 10/3 favourite to win the Irish 2,000 Guineas today with Hermival, Takar and Trumpet Major co-second favourites at 9/2.

Parish Hall had been priced at around 14/1 to win the Derby, with Camelot a clear favourite while Bonfire is next best in the betting at 5/1, ahead of Main Sequence at 12/1 and Imperial Monarch at 14/1.
