Henderson backs Bobs to prove his Worth

Trainer Nicky Henderson believes Bobs Worth (7/4 Betfred Gold Cup outright) will make up for the absence of two of his stable stars when he features in the highly-anticipated Betfred Gold Cup on Friday.

With Sprinter Sacre and Simonsig, who both won at Cheltenham last year, set to miss out on the Festival this time around it’s up to Bobs Worth to try and bring home the gold in a competitive race which will also feature Silviniaco Conti and Last Instalment (8/1 Betfred Gold Cup outright).

The missing duo are seen as the superstars at Henderson’s yard but Bobs Worth is not without his charm and is the favourite in the Gold Cup under jockey Barry Geraghty, who owned the nine-year old as a youngster.

Henderson has no doubts about what Bobs Worth is capable of and despite the loss of Sprinter Sacre and Simonsig, feels the real star will be running on Friday at 15.20.

He said: “You always forget that Bob is there because he’s such a reliable, lovely person and I’ve always said that.

“I bemoan that I haven’t got Sprinter Sacre or Simonsig this year but the actual star of the show, there he is, doing his own thing.

“Sprinter is all flash and as good a looking horse as you’ll ever see. Bob hasn’t got his natural talent but I bet Bob has a bigger heart. He does not know when to give up.”
