Hannon looking for Kool victory

Richard HannonTrainer Richard Hannon is confident that Kool Kompany (2/1 – Race Winner) can follow up his recent victory at the Curragh with a win in the 13:30 at Maisons-Laffitte on Sunday.

The two-year-old landed an impressive first in a Group 2 race in Ireland at the end of June to bounce back from a disappointing 12th at Royal Ascot recently.

Kool Kompany has also claimed victories at Leicester, Naas and Windsor as the Dark Bay Colt continues to impress in the early stages of his career.

The race at Maisons-Laffitte on Sunday will certainly be a tough ask, but Hannon is confident the stable can pick up a well-earned win.

“We made a mistake in trying to hold him up at Royal Ascot and he’s twice shown us in Ireland that he’s a hard horse to get past when he settles in front,” he said.

“He gets no penalty for his Railway victory here, so it looks the perfect race for him. You won’t miss him with his big white face, and we hope he’ll run another huge race.”

Kool Kompany will have to overhaul race favourite Goken on Sunday though – the two-year-old is priced at 5/4 and after recording back-to-back successes in Chantilly, it certainly looks to be a difficult task.

South Bank at 5/1 is the closest challenger to the aforementioned duo but Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to Khalid Abdullah, is concerned about the conditions.

“She’s slightly different to her mother, who was more substantial, but she’s got some zip. She wouldn’t want it too soft. I’m told it’s all right now but if it got very soft she wouldn’t run,” he said.
