Long Run rumours rubbished

Bet on horse racingRobert Waley-Cohen says “all systems are go” for Long Run after rumours surfaced suggesting all was not well with the 6/4 Betfred Gold Cup favourite.

The defending champion is the clear favourite in the betting after Kauto Star had a fall while schooling, pushing the 12-year-old’s odds out to 4/1.

It still remains to be seen whether Kauto Star will run, but Waley-Cohen has scotched any talk of his seven-year-old star hurdler missing out on the feature race of the Cheltenham Festival.

Long Run’s owner took to Twitter to rubbish talk of any problems with the Gold Cup favourite, claiming he had been through his normal routine on Tuesday.

“Mystified by Long Run poorly rumours. Worked as normal today. All systems go,” he tweeted.

Long Run was victorious for the first time since winning last year’s Gold Cup when he was first past the post at the Denman Chase at Newbury last month. Before then Kauto Star had beaten Long Run twice, including at the King George VI Chase in December.

Long Run and Kauto Star will be expected to dominate the rest of the field if they run, but Grands Crus (6/1) and Synchronised (10/1) might have a say in matters.
