Henderson ready for Rainbow to shine

Nicky Henderson feels Finian’s Rainbow is in good form for Wednesday’s sportingbet.com Queen Mother Champion Chase but acknowledges the threat of Sizing Europe (Sizing Europe 5/6, Finian’s Rainbow 4/1 – Queen Mother Champion Chase).

The eight-year-old finished runner-up to Captain Chris in last year’s Arkle and is the main British hope for the prestigious race on day two of the Festival.

After claiming a couple of victories towards the end of last year, Finian’s Rainbow re-emerged at Ascot in late January to contest the Victor Chandler Chase.

He was caught close home by Somersby on that occasion but Henderson believes that his charge has improved from that outing and is capable of giving the favourite a run for his money this time around.

“He’s a more relaxed person this year than he was in the Arkle,” he said. “You can’t get away from Sizing Europe, he looks the real deal, but I think we can give him a race. He was good at Ascot but is a bit sharper now.”

Barry Geraghty will once again be in the plate and he agrees with the Seven Barrows handler that his mount has yet to show his hand.

“He hasn’t delivered on his potential this year. I think there’s better to come from him,” he said. “I think wherever he does bring his A-game, he’ll be a force to be reckoned with in any two-mile chase.”

Big Zeb is third in the betting and can be backed at 9/2 while Kauto Stone, half-brother to duoble Gold Cup winner Kauto Star, is on offer at 16/1.
