Roy Hodgson says he will do all he can to keep Fernando Torres at Liverpool (9/1 Premier League Top Four Finish), but fears Manchester United could see him as a replacement for Wayne Rooney.
The Spaniard was at the centre of speculation over his future during the summer, amidst claims that Chelsea were looking to take him to Stamford Bridge.
Despite committing to the Reds, Torres’ long-term future is still open to debate after Liverpool’s poor start to the season.
With Rooney (2/5 to leave in January’s transfer window) saying he wants to leave Old Trafford, Hodgson feels Torres could be on the list of potential replacements but he is determined to keep his star striker.
The Reds boss said: “I’m not naive enough to think there is no danger we’ll ever lose Torres. I can only hope we won’t. I’ll do everything in my power to keep him happy.”
The World Cup winner will play not part in Thursday’s Europa League clash (Napoli 10/11, Draw 5/2, Liverpool 3/1 – Match Betting), with Liverpool resting the striker against Napoli.
Steven Gerrard also sits the game out, while Glenn Johnson is injured and Daniel Agger out through illness. Midfielder Christian Poulsen is expected to return though.
