Woods out to impress Pavin

Woods9377372 300x195 Woods out to impress PavinTiger Woods has reiterated his desire to play in the Ryder Cup and hopes to impress US captain Corey Pavin at the Deutsche Bank Championship (Woods 5/6 to win 1st round three ball at Deutsche Bank).

The world number one failed to qualify automatically for the biennial event, following a truncated, below-par year, caused by personal problems that saw the breakdown of his marriage.

The American captain has four wild card picks at his disposal and Woods operating at anywhere near his best would be an automatic choice (USA 13/8 to win Ryder Cup).

However the Florida resident has struggled with his putter and will doubtless be put under tremendous pressure by the vociferous European crowds expected at Celtic Manor between October 1 and 3.

There were reports stateside that the 14-time major winner was not keen to play in the prestigious event and instead work on his game for the remainder of the season.

But Woods has made it clear that he feels his touch is returning after working with new coach Sean Foley, and he is desperate to get the call from Pavin on September 7 to confirm his participation in Wales.

“Mentally I am hitting the ball better, hence more confidence. I am hitting it straighter and further, especially with my irons, and those are all positive signs,” he said.

“My focus is on just winning and if I win golf tournaments our captain will hopefully pick me.”

Woods will play with Australian duo Michael Sim and John Senden during the first two rounds in Boston and the tournament may be held up at some stage with a hurricane forecast to hit the area at some stage.
