Scott targets number one dream

Bet on golfAdam Scott is going into this week’s WGC Cadillac Championship (14/1 Price Boosts Win Only) at Doral looking to achieve his “dream goal” of becoming the world’s number one golfer.

The 33-year-old Australian started the ball rolling in his bid to usurp Tiger Woods at the top of the rankings almost a year ago when he claimed the Masters title at Augusta (14/1 Masters 2014 Tournament Outright) last April.

However, it was the end of the year in which Scott enjoyed the majority of his success on home soil that boosted his world No 1 bid as he came narrowly close to completing the Treble with victories in the Australian PGA and Masters, followed by a second-placed finish behind Rory McIlroy at the Australian Open.

Scott said ahead of the 2014 campaign, “I would love to be No 1, I think it can definitely happen”, and he is now closing in on that target at Doral this week.

A win and anything less than seventh place for Woods (11/10 Top 10 Finish) would be enough for Scott to become only the second Aussie after Greg Norman to take the number one spot since the rankings were introduced in 1986.

However Scott could be handed a boost if Woods fails to feature at Doral as he continues to undergo treatment on the back problem which forced him to withdraw from the final round of the Honda Classic on Sunday.
