Stenson eyeing major in 2014

After a career-best season in 2013, Henrik Stenson (20/1 to win the USPGA Championship in 2014) admits he is looking to go one better by adding a first major title to his record in 2014.

The Swede showed his ability on the circuit by claiming seven top ten finishes from his final nine events as he became the first person to win both the Race To Dubai and the FedEx Cup in the same season.

His success didn’t end there as he won one million euros when he won the DP World Tour Championship back in Dubai in November.

Stenson is yet to taste victory in a major though, having come second to Phil Mickelson (16/1 to win the USPGA Championship in 2014) in The Open at Muirfield.

He finished third in the USPGA and he now believes he is ready to end his wait for a major in 2014.

“From the US Open onwards I was on a really, really good run,” he told Sky Sports News.

“Obviously my game was in good shape but my attitude and state of mind was phenomenal and the success I have had is down to the mental state I was in over that period. But you have to have a good golf game to back it up as well, and it all came together for me in 2013.

“I took so many positives out of my second place at The Open and third at the USPGA and that is what I will be trying to build on for next year, try to up my game that little bit more to put myself right in the mix.”
