McIlroy hoping to feed off the Bear

Rory McIlroyRory McIlroy is hoping some of Jack Nicklaus’s magic will rub off on him after spending time with the legendary golfer ahead of the US Open (McIlroy 11/1 fav Tournament Outright).

McIlroy is looking for his second US Open title this week, having claimed the prestigious title back in 2011, and he appears full of confidence going into the tournament.

The 25-year-old recently secured the BMW PGA Championship on the European Tour before a 15th-place finish in the Memorial Tournament stateside, and the woes of 2013 now seem a thing of the past.

The Northern Irishman has only finished out of the top 10 on two occasions from 10 stroke play events this season and has a couple of runner-up finishes to add to his win at Wentworth (McIlroy 11/5 Top-5 Finish).

But the Ryder Cup ace has made it clear that he wants more and is targeting the majors this year, having finished in a tie for eighth at the Masters back in April.

He sat down for a chat with Nicklaus earlier this week to pick the brains of the ‘Golden Bear,’ and the Holywood-born ace is determined to take on board the words of wisdom to aid his chances at Pinehurst.

“I had a great conversation with Jack and I feel very honoured that I’m able to call him up for advice if I need to. He’s been very generous with his time,” he said.

“Some of the things he said to me, I’m really thinking about going into this week. He was a great US Open player and hopefully some of those little nuggets of wisdom that he passed on to me might help this week.”
