Kyle Stanley says he is trying to play “boring” golf in his quest to stay top of the leaderboard at the Farmers Insurance Open after opening up a one-shot lead (Stanley 3/1 Tournament Outright).
The Washington-native is looking for his first win on the PGA Tour and started the day as the joint-leader alongside Spencer Levin after both players had carded rounds of 62 on Thursday.
While Friday proved to be a tougher day for Stanley, he still managed to shoot a 68, with a birdie at the last giving him the overnight lead on 14-under.
While Stanley battled to stay on top of the pack, Levin had an awful day as he shot a round of 76 to see him finish in a tie for 20th.
Stanley will be hoping the same fate doesn’t befall him in the final two rounds as he looks to just maintain his advantage.
Stanley told pgatour.com: “My mindset right now is I’m trying to play boring golf – hit fairways, hit greens and make a few putts.”
Just one shot off Stanley is Brandt Snedeker (11/4 Farmers Insurance Outright) after he shot a fine round of 64, including a stretch of five birdies on the North Course.
The former PGA Rookie of the Year was in a confident mood after his performance on Friday and feels he still has plenty to give in the last two rounds.
“I feel like as good as I’ve played, I’ve left a few out there, which is a good feeling to know my game is where it needs to be,” said Snedeker.
A shot back on Snedeker is Sang-Moon Bae and Martin Flores, while current FedEx Cup champion Bill Haas and Hunter Mahan are both in double figures as well on 10-under.
