Kyle Stanley (2/7 Farmers Insurance Open outright) will go into the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines on the back of a superb round of 68 on Saturday.
The 24-year-old is looking for his first title in his second season on the tour and, after starting the third round with a one-shot lead and keeping his head while others struggled, he is the clear favourite going into the final day.
Stanley was understandably delighted with his position but knows he will have to be fully-focussed on Sunday to ensure he picks up his maiden tour title.
“I’ve never had (a third-round lead) – especially one this big,” he said. “I’m real happy with where I’m at, but I still have to go out there tomorrow and just keep playing golf.”
Although Stanley holds a four-shot lead, there are number of big names who will be looking to go low on Sunday to put pressure on him.
They include the reigning FedEx Cup champion Bill Haas, who has a strong record at Torrey Pines. However, Stanley will be partnered by rookie John Huh and the experienced John Rollins in a three-ball that could suit him (Rollins 11/10, Stanley 7/4, Huh 11/4 to win their three-ball).
Rollins, a three time PGA Tour winner admits that it will be a tough day on Sunday and believes the tournament is in Stanley’s hands, saying: “He’s clearly playing well and in control of his game. I can only control myself and my game.”
