Broberg to join Rose in Open

England's Justin RoseSweden’s Kristoffer Broberg (150/1 – Tournament Outright) is excited to get going at the Open Championship on Thursday after a runner-up spot at the Scottish Open earned himself a place in the major tournament.

The 27-year-old shot a final round 66 to finish on -14 for the competition, two behind winner Justin Rose and three ahead of Scotland’s Marc Warren.

Broberg has been in a decent run of form this year having finished tied-third for the Irish Open back in June, followed up by a joint 12th position in the Alstom Open de France at the start of July.

The Swede, whose last victory was in October 2012 in the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Challenge, will make his first appearance in a major tournament at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

Broberg said: “I played all right actually, like a couple of months now. But my short game is so much better right now. I’m just pleased to be in The Open and play my first major.

“Overall I’m just happy to be runner-up to Justin Rose. He played really well this week.”

Rose, who is currently the joint-favourite for the British Open at 14/1 alongside Rory McIlroy, made it back-to-back victories with success at Royal Aberdeen after the success in the Quicken Loans National.

The world number three has said that victory in Scotland has been very pleasing, a result which has also guaranteed his place in the Ryder Cup team for Europe.

Rose said: “I’m delighted to have won over here on The European Tour and delighted to have won a tournament of this sort of magnitude over here.

“It’s unbelievable, my first win in Scotland as a pro, and a lot of firsts for me really today.”
