Oosthuizen relishing links test

South Africa's Louis OosthuizenLouis Oosthuizen insists he is relishing a return to Scotland for the Scottish Open at Castle Stuart (Oosthuizen 33/1 – Tournament Outright), starting on Thursday, as he prepares himself for next week’s Open Championship at Royal Lytham and St Annes.

Oosthuizen won The Open at St Andrews by an amazing seven shots two years ago and has enjoyed some success this season, with victories in the African Open and the Maybank Malaysian Open.

However, he has been “up and down” in more recent times and is hoping work with coach Pete Cowen will set him up nicely for the next two events.

“I’ve been up and down the last two-and-a-half months, after Malaysia, not really playing very well and I’ve just been working on a few things again,” he said. “It’s slowly getting there.

“I worked with Pete (Cowen) on Saturday and found something and I’ve started hitting it nicely.  I need to play well this week to just get confidence a bit up for next week.”

Ooshuizen (7/2 – Top South African) missed last year’s event at Castle Stuart but is looking forward to his first outing, especially if the weather is as bad as it has been of late.

“From what I’ve heard, it’s a great track.  So if the weather stays this way, it will be difficult,” Oosthuizen added.

“But links golf should be harsh weather.  It should be rainy.  It should be windy.  Otherwise, it’s not the way it should be.”
