No rest as Walker defends Frys

Jimmy Walker 18922245The PGA Tour returns on Thursday with the Frys.Com Open and Jimmy Walker is back to defend the title he won in 2013 (Walker 14-1 joint-favourite – Tournament Outright).

It only seems like yesterday that Billy Horschel was claiming the $10million bonus for winning the FedEx Cup play-offs as the US golf circuit is about to begin once again.

Including majors and World Golf Championship events, 48 tournaments lie ahead for the stars from across the Atlantic ending, as usual, with the Tour Championship in late September.

The regular PGA Tour players have enjoyed a three-week rest but there was no such luck for the Ryder Cup stars, who had to deal with the mental pressure of the high-profile tournament and the disappointment of yet another loss to Europe.

Walker was among the vanquished Americans but he will be back in action this week at the scene of his maiden PGA success, which was followed by two more in 2014 to earn him his place on Tom Watson’s team.

Matt Kuchar joins him as 14/1 joint-favourite and will be looking for a strong start to the season to continue his excellent work towards the latter stages of last year’s inaugural ‘wraparound’ campaign.

The popular American was fourth at the Canadian Open and then finished in a share of fifth at The Barclays and he will be seeking an eighth title on the PGA Tour.

Other Ryder Cup stars to make an early return to action include Hunter Mahan (20/1) and England’s Lee Westwood (40/1) who will be full of confidence after being part of Paul McGinley’s victorious dozen.
