Fisher looks to stake Ryder Cup claim

Fisher 7984140 300x170 Fisher looks to stake Ryder Cup claimRoss Fisher says he hopes his form during 2009 has caught the eye of European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie as he seeks a place at Celtic Manor next year.

The Englishman has moved into the top twenty in the world rankings and admits that a debut appearance in the Ryder Cup (which Europe are 5/6 to win back in Wales) is among his main targets for 2010.

Fisher is hoping a good display at this week’s World Cup, where he partners Ian Poulter, will indicate to Montgomerie that he can play a big part in the European team in Wales next October.

The 29-year-old (12/1 to top the European money list next year) won the Volvo World Match Play Championship earlier this month and is currently in the automatic qualifying places for the clash with the US.

Fisher admitted: “Hopefully I can play myself into the Ryder Cup team but all I can do is take one tournament at a time and hopefully that will be good enough. “If me and Ian can have a good week, maybe Colin will be looking at it.”
