McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh insists the Formula One team can accommodate Lewis Hamilton (11/4 favourite in the Betfred outright winner market) and Jenson Button (7/1) and has tipped them both to enjoy a good campaign in 2010.
There have been reports the two Britons don’t exactly see eye to eye and, following world champion Button’s move to team up with McLaren and 2008 champ Hamilton, worries emerged over whether the team would be able to cope with two top drivers.
But Whitmarsh said: “We’ll be able to manage the demands and expectations of our drivers.
“They know what it takes to win and I’m sure they’ll both be very motivated to push each other to greater results.”
Despite the concerns, Whitmarsh believes having the two drivers is a ‘good problem’ to have as the pair are likely to battle it out at the top of the leaderboard for next season’s world championship.
“It’s a proposition that some teams might find troubling, but which we are absolutely relishing,” he added.
“Jenson did a fantastic job at Brawn GP last year – not just from a technical standpoint, but also from a motivational point of view – as did the whole team, and full credit to them.
“Similarly, Lewis has done an incredible amount in a very short space of time to earn the trust and respect of everyone in this organisation.”
