Wolves boss Mick McCarthy claims his side have the ‘team spirit and fight’ to avoid relegation from the Premier League (Wolves 10/11 To Be Relegated) this season.
The former Republic of Ireland coach watched his side crushed 4-0 at league leaders Chelsea (8/11 Premier League Outright) on Saturday when Wolves did recover from going three-down after only 22 minutes of the match at Stamford Bridge.
Wolves are stuck in the bottom three after the defeat, but McCarthy feels his squad has the capabilities to avoid an immediate return to the Championship at the end of the season.
He said: “I saw enough about the players, the endeavour, work-rate and spirit, and this won’t knock the spirit out of us. We were not expected to get anything here.
“I really hoped we would get something out of the game but reality was that we were expected to be in the bottom three still. We are in a relegation fight now, I’ve said that to the lads. We might as well understand that now. No bones about it.
“We won’t be judged on today’s game. I don’t doubt our team spirit and fight they have in them.”
