Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he won’t get carried away if the Gunners (4/1 to win the Premier League) go top of the league on Wednesday with a victory over Bolton.
The two sides clash will for the second time in four days after the north London outfit came away from the Reebok Stadium with a hard fought 2-0 victory over the Trotters (5/2 to be relegated) on Sunday.
If Arsenal can equal that result they will leapfrog Manchester United (11/4 to win the Premier League) and Chelsea (8/11) to take top spot in the league on goal difference.
Going top would complete a remarkable turn about for the Gunners whose title chances had been written off following their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at the end of November.
While Wenger admits taking top spot would represent a great achievement given the club’s current injury crisis he insists he won’t be getting carried away and knows nothing is won yet.
“I believe it’s a massive achievement to have a chance of going top given all our injuries, but of course I am not stupid,” said Wenger.
“It is a good target to try to go top but let’s first of all focus on winning the game, that is the most important. But mathematically it has not too much significance because there is still a long way to go.”
The Gunners will be without Robin van Persie, Nicklas Bendtner, Kieran Gibbs, Samir Nasri, Aaron Ramsey and Fran Merida for the visit of Bolton (12/1 to beat the Gunners in the match betting) while Alex Song and Emmanuel Eboue are unavailable as they are still at the African Cup of Nations.
The good news for Wenger is that Theo Walcott and Denilson should return to the squad while Gael Clichy could make his first start since picking up a back injury in October.
