Wenger rules out Van Persie for season

Van Persie 8031443 300x213 Wenger rules out Van Persie for seasonArsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted he has virtually written off Robin van Persie’s chances of playing again this season.
The Gunners striker damaged ankle ligaments in a friendly for the Netherlands last month, an injury which enraged the Arsenal manager.

The 26-year-old was initially expected to return to full fitness in six weeks, but Wenger now concedes the problem will keep his star striker sidelined for several more months.

“If you are very positive you would say [he'll be back in] April,” Wenger told the club’s website. “If you’re a bit cautious you say May. It is virtually the rest of the season.”

He added: “Personally I thought ‘Let’s put it in my head that he will not play again this season and hope that I will have a good surprise’.”

Arsenal are 9/2 with Betfred in Premier League – Outright odds, while van Persie has now dropped out of the Top Goalscorer betting.
