Wenger eyes last eight

Arsene Wenger 300x212 Wenger eyes last eightArsene Wenger is hoping to eventually make up for February’s Carling Cup final disappointment as his Arsenal side aim to book a place in the quarter-final of this season’s competition with a win over Bolton on Tuesday (Arsenal 4/7, Bolton 9/2, draw 3/1 – match betting).

The Gunners were close to ending their long wait for a trophy earlier in the year but were surprisingly beaten by Birmingham City at Wembley in the Carling Cup final.

Wenger admits the pain of that defeat will linger but he is targeting a win over the Trotters this week as his side looks to compete in all competitions this season.

“It will hurt me (the Birmingham defeat) forever because we never forget disappointments,” he said. “That’s part of life at a managerial level, you do not only have successes but disappointments too.

“There is hunger in this team no matter what competition. We want to do well in the Carling Cup, the championship, the Champions League, in every single competition.

“I don’t question the hunger of my team, they have an exceptional attitude.”

After a difficult start to the season, Arsenal have recovered in recent weeks and Sunday’s home win over Stoke was their third win in four and they now sit seventh in the table.

Wenger is likely to give youngsters Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (13/2 – First Goalscorer), Francis Coquelin, Emmanuel Frimpong and Park Chu-Young the chance to impress in the Carling Cup clash ahead of Saturday’s trip to London rivals Chelsea.
