Fernando Torres has vowed to be fit for Spain’s World Cup campaign this summer (Spain 4/1 favourites to win the World Cup) despite undergoing knee surgery only last month.
The Liverpool striker’s season was disrupted by several injury problems and it was thought the knee injury which kept him out of the final run-in could threaten his involvement for Spain out in South Africa.
However, ‘El Nino’ says he is desperate to be ready for his country’s opening Group H clash against Switzerland on June 16 as he looks to fire Spain to World Cup glory (Torres 12/1 to be the top scorer).
“It is true this season has been complicated by injuries. It’s been difficult and a shame I’ve not been able to play more games and score more goals,” Torres said.
“It hasn’t been perfect and the only thing now is to think about the prize of being in South Africa.
“I need to be positive and think there is the World Cup to come, which is now the most important thing.”
He added: “You wait four years for it and if things go well I don’t intend to miss it.”
Meanwhile, Torres continues to be linked with a move away from Anfield over the summer with reports over the weekend suggesting Manchester City and Chelsea will test Liverpool’s resolve to keep the star by launching huge bids for the striker.
