Fernando Torres has suggested under-fire Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez will not be able to buy his way back into the Premier League title race (Liverpool 1/4 draw 4/1 Wolves 15/2 Premier League – match bets).
The Spain international (3/1 Top Goalscorer) does not feel sacking countryman Benitez is the answer to problems on the pitch and is confident the Reds can turn the corner with a string of good results.
However, Torres, who has scored 11 goals in 13 Premier League games this season, has warned supporters against expecting a rush of new players in the January window.
American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks are reportedly courting new investment and Benitez is not expected to bring in new faces.
“Obviously we need players,” said Torres, who has scored 11 goals in 13 league games this season. “If we can bring quality players it should be really positive for us.
“But I think the situation is really difficult because I think we don’t have money to bring in the best players.”
