Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny believes the Gunners can still make it into the top four in the Premier League this season (2/1), despite sitting five points behind current fourth-placed Chelsea following the 2-1 defeat against Manchester United on Sunday.
The Gunners have lost their last three games as their bid for a top-four place and subsequent Champions League qualification has faltered since the turn of the year.
The 2-1 reverse at the weekend means they are well adrift of London rivals Chelsea but the Polish stopper is refusing to give up on the top four just yet, with plenty more points still to play for.
“I am confident we will pick ourselves up, will win games and get our position in the Champions League,” he told the club’s official website.
“I am not worried just disappointed obviously. I think this club should be in the Champions league year in year out. Hopefully we can deal with all of the pressure that surrounds us at the moment and live up to the expectations because these fans and this club deserves better results than we have got in the last few weeks.”
He added: “We’ve been there before and we have reacted very well. I think we’ll do the same thing again and make sure that this club goes in the right direction to finish the season where we should.”
The Gunners are next in action when they host Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday (Arsenal 8/15, Villa 9/2, draw 5/2 – match prices) before their next league match sees them travel to Bolton on February 1.
