Swans suffer Senna setback

2413585 300x196 Swans suffer Senna setbackSwansea’s hopes of landing Villarreal’s Spanish Euro 2008 winner Marcos Senna appear to have been scuppered by the player’s wage demands (Swansea 11/8 to stay up).

The Welsh side have already smashed their transfer record with the £3.5million capture of striker Danny Graham from Watford and chairman Huw Jenkins has pledged to back boss Brendan Rodgers in the transfer market, but it would seem as if a deal for Senna is now unlikely.

Rodgers told the South Wales Evening Post: “I spoke to Marcos and our initial feedback was positive.

“He was keen to come but I think it may well be that the deal will end up being a bit too rich for us.”

Reports now suggest Senna will agree new terms with La Liga side Villarreal, who are keen to keep hold of the 34-year-old.

Rodgers had been keen to land Senna as a replacement for Darren Pratley, who left at the end of his contract and is poised to join Premier League rivals Bolton, but the Swans boss will have to look elsewhere as he plots Swansea’s survival bid.

The Welsh side have been handed a tricky opening fixture for their first fixture in the Premier League, with Swansea set to face big spending Manchester City at Eastlands on August 13 (match betting – Manchester City 1/4, draw 4/1, Swansea City 15/2).
