The Anfield outfit’s first objective is to finish in the top four of the Premier League and Skrtel insists they have a great chance of beating the likes of Aston Villa, Spurs and Manchester City in the race to finish behind Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

And the Slovakia international also claims Liverpool will not be sulking now they have dropped down into the second tier of European competition.

He told the Echo: “I believe we will reach our objective of finishing within the top four.

“Also, we are still in the Europa League and will be trying to get as far as possible.”

Liverpool face Unirea Urziceni in the Europa League round of 32 and are odds-on (2/11 To Qualify) to go through to the last 16.
