Injury-hit Fiorentina face title test

Fiorentina (4/9 in Match Betting) need to beat Sampdoria (13/2, Draw 16/5) in tonight’s big Serie A clash to stay in touch with champions Juventus and another of this season’s pretenders to the Scudetto – Napoli.

La Viola have the best home record in Serie A this term, having taken 19 points from their seven games at the Artemio Franchi, and their 11-match home unbeaten run stretches back into last season.

Vincenzo Montella’s side destroyed Atalanta 4-1 in their last home league match, courtesy of two Alberto Aquilani goals and the ex-Roma and Liverpool midfielder has been a key figure in their rise up the table.

Aquilani (9/1 First Goalscorer) has scored every 82 minutes that he’s played and currently boasts the best goal ratio among those with at least two goals scored this season.

However, he is an injury doubt for the game and could join Luca Toni, Stevan Jovetic and Adem Ljajic on the sidelines.

Fiorentina defender  Gonzalo Rodriguez has scored a goal in each of the last two match-days and is currently the most prolific defender in Serie A with four goals.

Sampdoria have turned around their fortunes in the past fortnight with back-to-back wins against Genoa and Bologna to end a seven-match losing skid.

Former Inter midfielder Andrea Poli has bagged in both recent wins but the impact of teenage striker Mauro Icardi cannot be underplayed as he has filled capably for the injured Nicola Pozzi and Maxi Lopez up front.

Fiorentina and Sampdoria have met 120 times in Serie A with La Viola leading the series by 43 wins to 33, with 44 draws.

However, Sampdoria are unbeaten in their last three meetings with the Tuscany club (two wins and a draw), and have conceded just one goal in the process.
