Robben determined to play part

PA 8970355 Robben 300x200 Robben determined to play partHolland winger Arjen Robben has insisted he could yet be fit to play a part for his country in the World Cup, despite revealing he has torn his hamstring (Holland 9/1 to win the tournament).

The Bayern Munich ace has a small tear in his left hamstring, picked up in the 6-1 warm-up win over Hungary on Saturday, but will now undergo intensive treatment from the Dutch medical team in a bid to be available for at least the latter part of the tournament, should Holland make it that far.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid star told Studio Voetbal: “On Sunday I had the scan and it’s just a small tear in my left hamstring. It’s the first time I have a injury on that spot of my leg.

“If I just let it heal then I’m back on the field in four to six weeks, but we don’t have so much time.

“We’re going to work incredibly hard. I’m going to fight until I drop.”

Robben admits he is facing a race against time to play a part for his country but he is determined to do all he can to get back to full fitness as soon as possible and thanked the Dutch camp for their support.

“The last 24 hours I have had so much support from all the people around me and that had a positive effect on me.

“After the injury I went to the locker room for a first diagnosis which was very difficult. But it was clear that it wasn’t good because I had a lot of pain. ”

Holland’s first game in Group E is on June 14 against Denmark (Holland to win 1-0 – 5/1), before they then play Japan and Cameroon.
