Mick McCarthy was relieved from his duties at Molineux earlier this week, with Wolves sitting in the Premier League relegation places with 13 matches remaining. (Wolves 4/6 To Be Relegated)

The likes of Steve Bruce, Alan Curbishley and Lee Clark have been linked with the role, but one man now out of the running is Neil Warnock, who was announced as Leeds United manager on Saturday.

Moxey has confirmed the club are about ‘halfway through the process’ of getting a new man and are hoping to announce an appointment very soon – in time for Saturday’s game with high-flying Newcastle.

“We have seen some very good candidates and have got some more candidates to see and we’ve got second interviews,” he told Sky Sports News.

“So far I think we are just about on schedule to keep to what we said which was, if at all possible, that we’d like a new manager in before our away game to Newcastle United.”

Wolves are on 21 points and only in the relegation places on goal difference, with QPR and Blackburn ahead of them in 16th and 17th places respectively. (QPR 5/6 Blackburn 4/6 To Be Relegated)
