Poyet handed Seagulls job

5378244 300x199 Poyet handed Seagulls jobBrighton chairman Tony Bloom is hoping Gus Poyet can transform the club’s fortunes this season (125/1 to win League One outright) after appointing him as the new manager on a contract until the end of the season.

The former Leeds and Tottenham assistant boss, who had successful playing spells with Chelsea and Spurs before goin into coaching, will take over from Russell Slade following his recent sacking.

The Seagulls currently sit one place outside of the relegation places and are ten points away from the promotion play-off places.

However Bloom is confident that Poyet and his assistant, former Ipswich and Tottenham defender Mauricio Taricco, will bring the good times back to the Withdean Stadium.

“Gus is one of the best up and coming young coaches in this country,” Bloom told the club’s website.

“His credentials are exceptional and all of the reports we had on his coaching ability are outstanding.”

“I am certain he will be a big success at the Albion, and I would like to take the opportunity to welcome both Gus and Mauricio to the club,” Bloom added.

Poyet’s first game in charge will be Sunday’s trip to Southampton (Southampton 8/13, Brighton 7/2, the draw 13/5 draw, match betting).
