Perez expects McLaren stay

Sergio Perez (50/1 to win the 2014 World Championship) remains confident that he will be retained as a McLaren driver for the 2014 season.

At the moment, McLaren have yet to confirm their full line-up for next season but Jenson Button (20/1 to win the World Championship) has already sealed a one-year extension to his contract, while the future of Perez is uncertain.

McLaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh has already reiterated that he ‘expects’ both drivers to remain with the British team in 2014, but the delay in confirmation has added further fuel to the growing speculation.

Perez was asked at the Indian Grand Prix about his future and is adamant he will be with the team next year.

He said: “I think it’s made, you can ask. No, not really. I am confident I will stay here. I haven’t seen the need to go after any other team.

“I expect to come back with this team, I believe in the team and I really think we can be fighting for the Championship next year.”

The Mexican made the switch from Sauber at the end of last season but the 23-year-old has endured a difficult campaign with the McLaren car struggling to compete with the likes of Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari and Lotus.

Perez did help his McLaren chances with an impressive performance in the Indian Grand Prix by finishing fourth ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen.
