Parker woe for Hammers

The east Londoners secured a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park on Sunday thanks to a spectacular late header from Araujo Ilan, but the point came at a cost.

Former England international Parker will now miss the home game against Sunderland as well as the trip to Liverpool, but crucially he will be back for the April 21 six-pointer against Wigan (9/2 for relegation) at Upton Park.

Boss Gianfranco Zola admitted he was relieved to end a six-game losing streak on Sunday.

The Italian said: “We decided to fight until the end and today was a clear demonstration that we kept our promise because we never gave up.

“I’m very pleased with my team. If you have that kind of attitude, you have no regrets. It was fantastic. I am going to get drunk tonight!

“I wouldn’t say the last five games are going to be a matter of life and death – but very close. We know what football is like but we are not going to hold anything back.”

West Ham play Fulham (a) and Manchester City at home in their final two games of the campaign.
