Neymar reacts to boo-boys

Neymar has admitted to feeling “sick” over treatment he received from Brazil fans on Friday but insisted the boo-boys will not affect his performances for the 2014 World Cup hosts and 7/2 favourites.

The 20-year-old was given the treatment by disenchanted followers of the Samba Stars at Morumbi Stadium in an unconvincing 1-0 win against South Africa but coach Mario Menezes was quick to defend his talisman.

“Neymar is one of the best, if not the best, player in Brazil and we can’t have him treated like that,” the coach said.

The Santos golden boy, the subject of ongoing speculation about his future, expressed his concern that Brazil fans now expect too much of him.

“I felt sick because of what happened against South Africa. I am not a machine,” he was quoted as saying by Globo Esporte. “I was exhausted after Friday’s match, both physically and mentally.”

The five-time world champions Brazil have not conceded a goal in two friendly wins since missing out on the gold medal at the London Olympics.

Selecao return to action on Tuesday (02:00 BST) when they play host to China at Estadio Jose do Rego Maciel in Recife and are the overwhelming 1/14 favourites, with the draw available to back at 15/2 and China quoted 20/1.
